Recovery and Finances

Even after years in recovery many alcoholics and addicts still have trouble budgeting. The obvious solution is to add one's expenses and subtract that amount from what you make. Other solutions might include only using cash (if charging items is a temptation). Go through your expenditures and decide what isn't necessary. Maybe the best solution, and perhaps the most difficult, is self inquiry to discover what you may be trying to avoid or escape. Possibly it's avoiding feeling emotions, or putting off decisions, or fear. Just because you are not currently using doesn't mean you may not be still experiencing the concerns that caused you to start using.
